Fat Kids Corner food assessment: Leeman Döner

Growing up in Long Island, New York, my cultural palate by no means skilled many cuisines out of doors of Italian, Chinese, American and Mom’s. Turkish meals was by no means an alternative, so now at 38 years old, I can appreciate the nice, candy, peppery and warm flavours this cuisine, rich in subculture, gives.Fat Kids Corner food assessment: Leeman Döner 1
Sauce thieves

When the risk of sauce robbery is so commonplace that an area has to hang up a sign announcing, “Sausflesjes mogen niet naar buiten” (“Sauce bottles aren’t allowed outside”), some thing actual unique need to be going on internal! Leeman Döner has been a family owned and operated commercial enterprise for the reason that 1992, with locations here in Amsterdam.

What is döner?

Well, it’s an inverted cone of meat, seasoned with Turkish spices, being slowly cooked, vertically on a rotisserie as a way to make any Fat Kid vulnerable at the knees.

I walk in, I’m nearly drooling! Serving up Turkish Pizza’s, Lamb or Chicken Döner, Dürüm, Kebab, Falafel, Börek and even Baklava, you may choose just about something on the menu and simplest pay a few euros for it! I supply my order, “Kip broodje” and luckily locate an area to sit down. Entranced, I watch the 4 meat saunas paintings their magic!

Spinning spherical and around, the döner slowly chefs whilst fresh, made-to-order portions of bread are coated up, waiting to be called into action. “Hondered drieentwintig!” They call out. “Hondered drieentwintig” They yell out again…” Then, “Number 123!” “Shit!” I assume that’s me. “Sorry.. Dank je wel,” I say as I clutch my hen bundle of joy like a new child.
Battle gear

The equipment I need for warfare, napkins and extra garlic sauce, are inside hanging distance as I eye up my first chunk. I dive in! The crunch of the lettuce, bite from the onion, earthiness of the cilantro mixed with the taste of paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic, cumin, oregano, and purple pepper contact my palate, growing a holy matrimony of flavours with the chicken.

Physically unable to place my sandwich down, I snicker, looking the lunchtime online game unfolding in the front of me. Everyone there is “Pac Man” eating: chomp, chomp, chomp without stopping. My very own Fat Kids model of “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat” starts offevolved gambling in my head as I douse my sandwich with extra garlic sauce!
Brothers-in-arms

Like machines, without pronouncing a phrase, together we’re garlic sauce “Brothers-in-fingers”, passing the bottle back and forth to each other after each chew until there’s no extra sandwich left!

Out of breath, I cave as I ponder every other sandwich. “Why not?” I say, as I re-enlist my belly for any other tour of responsibility. It’s simply that correct.

Remember, regardless of where you come back from, wherein you’re at or in which you’re going, meals permits us to return collectively notwithstanding cultural or religious variations. Stop in nowadays and say hello to my buddies at Leeman Döner!”
